Welcome to the new President of Samoa Badminton Federation – Dino Smith. It is very pleasing to see the renewed enthusiasm and activity in Samoa.
June has been a very active month in all areas. We had the successful Oceania Masters in Paradise in the Cook Islands followed by the SATHIO GROUP Australian Open, a World Tour Super 500 tournament, in Sydney which treated us to some spectacular world class badminton.
July is an exciting month with the Paris Olympic Games starting on the 27th. We will be following Tiffany Ho, Setyana Malpasa and Angela Wu as they proudly represent Australia on the courts. The time zone is not friendly for us in Oceania, start preparing for late nights

SATHIO GROUP AUSTRALIAN BADMINTON OPEN
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
The SATHIO GROUP Australian Open 2024 was a spectacular of high-quality badminton by players from around the globe. Sydney, Australia came alive with an electric atmosphere that had the fans out of their seats with excitement. Champions came from four different countries which made for exciting finals.
Congratulations to the organisers, volunteers and players for a world-class week of international badminton.

AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND REFEREE & UMPIRE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
The Australia/NZ Referee and Umpire development programme was established at the beginning of 2022. The objective of the programme is to support young technical officials who have been identified by their member associations as having the potential to attain Badminton World Federation level in the future.

The first Badminton World Federation (BWF) Level 3 Coach course in the Oceania region was recently held in Sydney, Australia. 14 invited coaches from Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, South Africa, and Singapore took part.

Rose Wapp from Manawatu, New Zealand was rarely seen without a smile on her face at the Oceania Masters In Paradise event in 2022. Winner of the ‘International Player Personality’ award at the closing function/prize giving was very apt.

My twin elder brother and I were born prematurely into a family of accomplished scholars and business managers who also enjoyed sports of all kinds. Mum was an elite centre player in basketball; dad’s main sport was volleyball, and they both enjoyed playing tennis and squash. My elder sister and my twin brother were keen swimmers and crazy about football. They not only excelled in playing the sports they loved, but also became coaches and technical officials.
