Badminton Oceania is excited to share the eagerly awaited History Document. Building on a year of research and previous documentation which highlights the moments from the last century which have shaped the organisation into what it is today.
Formed on 21 May, 1987, Badminton Oceania has celebrated extraordinary growth. From the original founding members (Roy Ward, Heather Robson, Ian Palmer, Dr Jeffrey Robson and Cedric Baxter) to employing the first paid member of staff in 1998, the workforce has expanded to a team of 10 across New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji, working with 16 Member Associations.
The document recognises several other historical moments with have influenced badminton in Oceania, including the Whyte Trophy, Committees, Olympic and Commonwealth representation, technical officials and BWF sanctioned tournaments (dating as far back as 1989) and more – all mapped out in an evolutionary timeline which celebrates key achievements for badminton and the organisation since 1900.
Despite a challenging year, Badminton Oceania is excited to continue evolving the world’s fastest racket sports in one of the most unique regions in the world and you are invited to read and share this publication with enthusiastic badminton followers.
