Celebrating Papua New Guinea in their first Cricket World Cup

The PNG Barramundis’ historic participation in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup drew the attention of the world, with international coverage following the amazing journey of the team in which they showed great character and played exciting cricket. It was not easy for Papua New Guinea to reach this tournament with extreme adversity faced along the way. This was not lost on the team in their first game, with emotions and tears spilling during the national anthem – which was filmed with kids in PNG and shown on the big screen in the stadium.

To celebrate the PNG Barramundis historic participation at the World Cup, Cricket PNG – with the support of the PNG Australia Partnership – hosted the Village Cricket World Cup 2021 Series at Amini Park. The Village World Cup brought teams from the villages, men, women, and youth players together to celebrate this historic achievement with their own unique style of cricket. The teams embraced the colours of their adopted countries and at the same time would always back the Barras!
