Oceania Fencing Confederation update

With the general relaxation of borders, the Oceania Fencing Confederation (OFC) looks forward to being able to hold much awaited Oceania Fencing Championships for the zone in New Zealand and Australia later this year.

In April, the OFC began its online Level 1 Coaching Course in partnership with Global Fencing Masters (GFM). Twenty-five student coaches from Guam, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia are meeting fortnightly via Zoom to share experiences and learning, using a coaching app to record and review practical tasks and an online learning program supervised by OFC and GFM coach educators. The OFC Coaching Commission will be able to provide face-to-face assessment of the candidates during the second half of the year.

On a sad note, the OFC mourns the passing of Mark Rance, Vice President of the OFC, past President of Fencing New Zealand, and Chair of the International Fencing Federation Veteran’s Council. Mark was dedicated to the advancement of fencing in the region and he will be sorely missed.
