Oceania Taekwondo Seminar

An Oceania Taekwondo Education (Kyorugi), Accreditation and Development seminar was held in French Polynesia earlier this year, from April 30 until May 3, 2022.

The seminar was presented by World Taekwondo Oceania education manager, Denzil Ray, and organised by the President of French Polynesia Taekwondo (Tahiti), Mr Alfred Lai.

A Kyorugi sparring competition – the Taekwondo Pegase Cup – was organised to be held in Papeete, with over 200 entries for the event, and this event was used to develop new Taekwondo referees and coaches in Tahiti.

This event was also followed up with a meeting with the sports minister of Tahiti, Mr Naea Bennett, to discuss Ray’s visit to the country, the development program, and the plan to implement the latest World Taekwondo Kyorugi/sparring rules from June 1, 2022, which will also be implemented at the upcoming World Taekwondo Oceania-sanctioned events being held later this year in the lead up to the Pacific Games 2023 and Olympic Games in 2024.
