OSFO & Total Teams Wellbeing Project

For over a decade, OSFO has been at the forefront of wellbeing advocacy in Oceania, weaving wellbeing into the fabric of sport through innovative initiatives and partnerships. From early positive sports coaching programs to the creation of strategic frameworks for flourishing teams, OSFO has consistently demonstrated its commitment to enhancing the lives of athletes, coaches, administrators, and communities.

In 2024, OSFO’s Wellbeing journey reached a pivotal milestone with the completion of Phase 1 of the OSFO Wellbeing Project in partnership with Total Teams. This phase was designed to move beyond isolated initiatives toward a cohesive, strategic vision for embedding Wellbeing into the Oceania sporting ecosystem.

Key Outcomes

  • Understanding the Landscape: through stakeholder consultations, a regional Wellbeing Measurement survey, and an Appreciative Inquiry at the STEP Up Conference, OSFO captured an in-depth understanding of the strengths, challenges, and opportunities within the region.
  • Strategic Alignment: Stakeholder engagement across OSFO, OSEP, and regional federations resulted in a shared vision for Wellbeing integration, building momentum and fostering regional buy-in.
  • Pilot Success: The delivery of a Wellbeing Education pilot at the Oceania Athletics Championships introduced foundational literacy to 40 participants, providing a proof of concept for scalable initiatives.
  • Partnerships for Expansion: Strengthened collaborations with OSEP and ONOC’s Athlete Commission established a framework for regional growth.
  • Actionable Recommendations: Insights gathered during Phase 1 informed the Champions of Wellbeing (CoW) Partnership and the broader strategic plan for Phase 2.

Phase 2 builds on the foundation established in Phase 1, focusing on creating momentum, refining programs, and scaling impact across the region. This phase serves as the bridge between the foundational work of Phase 1 and the broader organisational and regional expansion planned for Phase 3.

Together, OSFO and Total Teams have the opportunity to shape a new narrative for sport in Oceania—one where wellbeing is not just a priority but a foundation for success.
