Brett Baudinet: A Historic Milestone for Pacific Oceania’s Davis Cup Legend!

In the world of tennis, few stories speak more powerfully to perseverance, pride, and regional impact than that of Brett Baudinet. Hailing from the Cook Islands, Brett has quietly built one of the most respected legacies in international team tennis. Now, after more than two decades of Davis Cup dedication, he has reached a milestone that places him among the sport’s greatest, equaling the world record for the most Davis Cup doubles wins in history.

As of July 2025, Brett holds an exceptional Davis Cup doubles record of 45–21, placing him alongside Indian tennis legend Leander Paes at the top of the all-time leaderboard. It has taken Brett 21 years of unwavering commitment, representing a region often overlooked on the global tennis stage, to reach this moment.

This isn’t a career defined by headlines or grand slams, but by something perhaps more meaningful: sustained excellence, national representation, and service to Pacific Oceania.

With 70 Davis Cup ties played, more than any athlete in the region’s history, Brett has been the steadfast heart of the Pacific Oceania team.

His Davis Cup journey began in Sri Lanka in 2000, and he has since led the team through historic highs, including their promotion to Group II in 2004 and their first home win in Fiji in 2005. In recognition of his longevity and dedication, Brett earned a place on the ITF Honours Board in London after completing his 50th tie, a rare and prestigious accolade.

In 2021, he became the first Cook Islander to captain the Pacific Oceania Davis Cup Team, solidifying his status as both a leader and role model across the region.

What sets Brett apart is not only the number of matches he’s won, but how he’s won them: with humility, consistency, and an unwavering belief in what Pacific athletes are capable of. He has mentored multiple generations of players across Oceania while remaining a cornerstone of the team’s doubles strategy.

His resilience, especially in doubles, has been crucial in guiding the Pacific Oceania team through challenging campaigns in Asia and across the islands. For his achievements and contributions to sport, he was named Cook Islands Sportsman of the Year in 2017.

Beyond the court, Brett has channelled the same discipline into business. He is the Founder & CEO of Smartie, a fintech super app designed to bring mobile payments, banking, and e-commerce to Pacific communities.

As Managing Director of The Grand Resort Rarotonga, the first 5-star luxury resort in the Cook Islands, he also plays a key role in tourism and economic development for his home country.

Despite these demanding roles, Brett continues to return to the court, motivated not by personal records, but by a deep sense of duty to the Pacific region.
