The Oceania Cycling Confederation, AusCycling, Tourism and Events Queensland and Brisbane Economic Development Agency are delighted to announce that Brisbane, Australia will host the first combined Oceania Cycling Championships, from March 27 to April 11, 2022.
Oceania Championship titles will be contested across the eight disciplines of BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, Mountain Bike Cross Country, Para-cycling (road and track), Road (time trial and road race) and Track Cycling. The Oceania Gran Fondo Challenge will also be contested as a non-championship event.
Oceania Cycling Confederation President, Tony Mitchell said; “The UCI and Oceania Cycling Confederation are delighted the combined Oceania Cycling Championships will be held in Brisbane in 2022. The Oceania Championships are the pinnacle events for our Confederation, which sees the best athletes in the region competing for these prestigious titles.”
Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe, said; “We’re looking forward to welcoming high-calibre sporting events like the Oceania Cycling Championships as the countdown begins to Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Some recent changes to COVID protocols easing quarantine requirements for athletes returning to New Zealand and other Pacific countries has resulted in lifting the last hurdle for the Championships to proceed, most of which haven’t been held for the past two years. The combined Championships at the one venue is a first for Oceania Cycling.
The 2022 Oceania Cycling Championships Program is:
- 19-20 March: 2022 OCEANIA MOUNTAIN BIKE (MTB) DOWNHILL CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 27 March: 2022 OCEANIA MOUNTAIN BIKE (MTB) XCO CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 2-5 April: 2022 OCEANIA TRACK CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 2-5 April: 2022 OCEANIA PARACYCLING TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 8 April: 2022 OCEANIA BICYCLE MOTOCROSS (BMX) RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 10 April: 2022 OCEANIA BMX FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 10 April: 2022 OCEANIA GRAN FONDO CHALLENGE (non-championship event)
- 9-10 April: 2022 OCEANIA ROAD CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
- 9 April: 2022 OCEANIA PARACYCLING ROAD TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
