Get into Rugby reaches Manono Tai

Lakapi Samoa has claimed their third Oceania Rugby Get into Rugby Monthly Spotlight Union Award for 2021.

The activities across the month of August saw the Lakapi Samoa development team continue engage with volunteers across the country and deliver amazing programs to the region’s schools.  In the third week of August, Lakapi Samoa conducted a four-week program to a total of 17 schools across two regions, A’ana 2 Chiefs in Upolu and Itu o Tane 2 Vikings in Savaii, located in the outer rural areas of Upolu and Savaii.

In Lakapi Samoa’s efforts and commitment to inclusivity and leaving no student behind the program was brought to Manono Tai, which is a smaller island of Samoa, with two schools participating in the global rugby development program.

Two festivals were held at the completion of the four-week program in August. These festivals were were held in the Aana 1 (Chief’s region) and Itu o Tane 1 (Vikings region). The students from these regions formed the respective teams that competed in the festival.

Two training sessions were conducted simultaneously on August 12 for primary school teachers. The courses included a Level 1 15s Coaching Course and a Level 1 15s Match Officials Course.

The ongoing four-week program continues to be an exciting and encouraging learning experience for both students and volunteers. The excitement from the 1,368 participating students (709 boys, 659 girls) is what fuels Lakapi Samoa’s commitment and passion to continue delivering these programmes. Although Lakapi Samoa had some minor challenges, the union’s development team has ensured that the programme continues to be delivered to students across the nation.
