Oceania Cycling Confederation Update

Oceania Hosts Worlds Masters MTB Enduros

A whole world of new Masters Mountain Bike (MTB) Marathon Champions were crowned here in Oceania in September.  Dwellingup, Western Australia was the host venue for the 2023 UCI Masters MTB Marathon Championships, which also included the inaugural Oceania Elite MTB Marathon Championships.  Hundreds of competitors from across the globe enjoyed these demanding World and Oceania championships across a weekend event that was very professionally presented by the local WA MTB community.

Tahiti Dominate the Second Pacific Cup

The second Pacific Cup (road cycling) was held in Tahiti in September, and despite the hosts Tahiti dominating the podium the events (time trial and road race) were keenly contested by riders from across the Pacific.  Tahiti Cycling Federation presented an excellent weekend of racing that included some tricky wet conditions for the road race, but all competitors came through safely.  The Pacific Cup was again supported by UCI Solidarity.

Revolve Recycling Hosts Mechanics Training

Oceania Cycling was delighted to conduct its first training course for bike mechanics from the Pacific islands this month.  The course is being hosted by Revolve Recycling, a company that specialises in recycling and rebuilding bikes, and was run over five days at their Sydney workshop.  The inaugural trainees funded by UCI Solidarity, are from Samoa and Vanuatu.  It is planned to be an annual project providing an important resource for Pacific cycling federations to protect their investment in bikes by having the skills on hand to keep them operational.

Cook Islands BMX Pump Track Completed

Having endured long delays due to Covid, and many funding challenges, Cook Islands Cycling Federation proudly opened their new BMX Pump Track in August.  The track has been an immediate success with the local kids and plans are already underway for the ambitious construction of a championship standard BMX Racing Track.
