Oceania Fencing Confederation update

The FIE (International Fencing Federation) Elective Congress was held in Lausanne on November 27, 2021. Despite difficulties with travel imposed by the COVID pandemic, all Oceania federations were represented either by a Delegate or Proxy at the Congress.

The Oceania Fencing Confederation (OFC) is pleased to announce that all three nominees from Oceania were successful; David Baker (AUS) was re-elected to the Publicity & Promotions Commission; Caitlin Fox-Harding (AUS) was appointed to the Women & Fencing Council, and Mark Rance (NZL) was re-appointed to the Veterans’ Council.

Fencing competition resumed in both Australia and New Zealand during December 2021 and continued on into January/February 2022. The FIE has also begun holding World Cup events and World and Zonal Championships are planned.

The OFC has partnered with Global Fencing Masters (GFM) to carry out a trial of GFM’s online Level 1 Foil Coaching Course. This is an innovative online platform where participants take a convenient, self-paced visual course specifically tailored for the Beginning Fencing Coach. The OFC is meeting the cost of participation in this course for emerging Pacific fencing nations.
