Cambridge (NZL) Velodrome becomes UCI World Cycling Centre Continental Development Satellite

As part of its policy for the development of cycling throughout the world, the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC), the training and education centre of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), has awarded the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge the status of UCI WCC Continental Development Satellite for Oceania.

The aim of the New Zealand-based UCI WCC Continental Development Satellite is to develop cycling in all its forms, with specific focus on Track, Road, BMX Racing and Mountain Bike in the Oceania Region.

UCI WCC Director Jacques Landry said: “The UCI World Cycling Centre’s Continental Development Satellites play a vital role in the development of cycling worldwide. We work closely with our Satellites, which are strategically located around the world to ensure that talented athletes and their entourage can benefit from the best possible training and education opportunities.

Oceania Cycling is currently in discussion with the Cambridge WCC Satellite to conduct two Pacific (Group 4) athlete camps over the next several months.

Pacific Cup Mountain Bike a first in Oceania

After two successful Pacific Cup Road competitions in 2022 and 2023, an inaugural Pacific Cup for Mountain Bike Cross Country (MTB XC) was held in Brisbane back in late March.

It was a very successful event, which ran off the back of the Oceania MTB XC Championships, and exposed Pacific riders to the next level of competition.

Riders from Tahiti, Guam and Samoa contested this first-ever event on a challenging course at Karingal, Mt Cotton in Brisbane’s south-east. Tahiti ran out winners in both men and women categories.
